A helpful little guide

from yours truly

We understand

We get it... It can be a little overwhelming to prepare for a photo shoot. We are here to help!

First of all, relax! There is nothing to be nervous about.

You might be flashing back to your 6-year-old days at the JCPenny photo booth… matching white shirts, posing hardddd and trying to get your little brother to look at the camera.

This photo shoot will NOT be like that.

You can expect to have fun! Come ready to move around, maybe hike around, sit down, lay down, and basically make out with your bae a whole bunch.

In general, just look at him / her and smile smile smile.

what to wear?

A few tips from us

 rules, schmules

That's right!  Remember, this is a GUIDE. Not a rulebook.

In the end, remember that you can do whatever you want.

We will capture and deliver stellar photos regardless.

bring options

Feel free to bring a few outfit options. This isn’t a requirement, but definitely encouraged. If you’re nervous about choosing the right thing, just bring what makes you feel good. Then we can work together and choose something that blends with the environment and won’t be distracting in photos.

p.s. most people just stick with one outfit after all, but it’s always good practice to have some backups

 Think about the environment

No, not the natural world environment (though we are to love and care for her). Think about the location at which we’re shooting these photos. Is it sandy? Probably not a good place for high heels. Is it snowing? Probably not a good place for that pink summer dress of yours.

Choose clothes that compliment the environment and will make this a good experience for you. It doesn’t take a photography wiz to realize that you’re wearing a tank top in -5°F weather in the middle of January. Why not grab the wool sweater instead? Wear what makes you comfortable, but also what makes sense.

On this note - especially for the guys - don’t get tooooo formal! If you picked us to do your photos, you probably want some whimsical, fun, candid photos of yourselves, so try to avoid wearing a vest, suit, blazer, dress shoes, etc. Ties are sometimes okay, but usually not. Just think it through before you tuck in that shirt :)

 think about movement

this one is simple…

wear clothes you are comfortable moving around in.

Maybe running, maybe sitting, maybe laying down,

maybe climbing a flag pole, idk.

get comf.

 Colors & Patterns

Nothing is off limits. Express yourself. Be yourself.

We simply encourage you to wear what blends well with the environment.

Colors

NOTHING IS TECHNICALLY OFF LIMITS.

basically JUST AVOID BRIGHT, FLORESCENT,

OVERLY-FLAMBOYANT COLORS.

The ultimate enemy here is distraction.

Patterns

 most PATTERNS ARE TIGHT.

SOME PATTERNS ARE NOT SO TIGHT.

JUST AVOID LOUD, BRIGHT PATTERNS THAT

WILL DISTRACT FROM THE SUBJECT, YOU!

Props

If ya got em, and ya love em,

go ahead and bring em.

Hats, blankets, cars, pets, boats…

we’ve seen it all! Never a bad idea to us.
